How to replace a faucet pad in 5 easy steps (and why you need it)

If you find that your faucet is running and you are not sure why - it may be because you need to replace the washing machine. This is a task that everyone can do quickly - so our Collingwood plumber thought he would go into detail on how to replace the washing machine - and why you should do it.

 

What is a washing machine and why should you change it?

A faucet washer is a piece of hardware that is used to provide a tight seal when the faucet is closed. There is a normal tap washer (picture above), a fiber washer (a wide disc that usually turns red) and o-ring (s) (small rubber rings), all of which work to ensure a tight seal and prevent water dripping. . When the tap is on - the washing machine is some water that can flow. If you start to have a faucet - then it is a good time to wash the pads on a hot or cold faucet. Even the best washing machines wear out over time - so if you find that your tap is running, don't worry. All you have to do is buy the right size pads and follow the steps below and you can replace the pads quickly.

 

1. Switch off the main water supply

The absolute first thing you want to do is turn off the water in your home. Make sure you do not use the washing machine or dishwasher or that no one is bathing. After turning off the main tap water (s), you will work to the end to drain any remaining water still in the pipes so that you do not get wet more than necessary.

 

2. Remove the tap

Instead of finding out if your cause is hot or cold - it's usually worth the effort to turn them both on at once. Each faucet is different, but your typical faucets have small top caps that can be screwed on by hand, so you can remove the handle yourself and unscrew the hood / screen (the dome element is located at the base of the faucet). The spindle is another piece that needs to be removed, and you will need the help of a tensioner to remove this piece.

 

3. Replacing rings or

After removing the spindle, you can remove the first type of washer - the fiber washer. It can only be removed from the spindle. You can then loosen the spindle around the Teflon tape (which needs to be removed) or uncover the ring (s) that will prevent water in your sink from flowing out of the base of the faucet. Some spindles have one or a ring and others may have two and can be removed with pliers. Apply some grease to the spindle or ring to repair the seal, reapply the Teflon tape and screw the spindle back to seal the ring or ring.

 

4. Replacing the washing machine

A washer is visible at the end of the spindle. If your faucet is placed in a vertical sink - then the washer in the insert / hole has removed the spindle. If the battery is placed on the wall - it may tear off with the washing machine. Just replace the old with the new. Then apply additional Teflon tape to the other threaded spindle fittings to seal them properly and place the new fiber washer in place of the old one.

 

5. Reassembly

Follow the disassembly steps in reverse order and replace the crane. Our Collingwood-based plumbers recommend repeating this process on the second battery before the first one is fully assembled. After securing the game, you can go to the second tap. When you're done with one - store the spindle, turn on the main water and try both taps. Once you are satisfied, you can return the other pieces to the taps and finish them again. This way, if they don't work the way they should - you can easily find out what's wrong without having to unplug all the hardware.
